Does marriage counseling work?
I have never known anyone that has gone to counseling that has stayed together. I've gone a few times in different relationships, and it seemed like the counselor or the counseling pushed us apart.
Now I'm in a marriage that is having problems...we went to counseling before and it failed miserably. The fact that we were going itself caused strain on the relationship. Needless to say that it didn't work. Now my wife and I are considering it again, but I'm not sure if it is even worth it.
I have been to individual counseling off and on for years. It has worked for me; however I have not seen couples counseling work.
Reason is simple. Counseling only works if BOTH are in agreement with the counseling. You seem to be a poster child in this by what you just said going few times in different relationships, marriage now in counseling etc. along with individual counseling.
Sometimes when two people counsel they bring to light really sensitive things and one or both do not want to get to the root of it. So it fails.
Also, the counselor him/her doesn't mesh and make the couple open up properly.
All I can say for your current marriage is to sit her down and even if you take out a notebook pad and pen and write down pros and cons to the relationship. Together list them and talk about how to fix them in the cons side. Maybe seeing it together on paper and discussing it will help you.

It is certainly the hope of these agencies that their diligence and concern for the welfare of both children and their parents will lead to additional safeguards enacted to accomplish this goal.
